Ignite PD Activity: Teach Reluctant Students to Become Resilient Learners

A key challenge for educators is to move students away from positions of doubt, questioning, and self-protection and toward becoming resilient learners who can tolerate temporary failure and setbacks. This activity positions participants to tap the power of affirmations to help students see missteps and mistakes as momentary experiences, not a reflection of who they are. Participants engage in reflection, brainstorming, and experience-sharing around six powerful affirmations, provided on an affirmation card deck for each participant. By tapping collective experience and expertise, participants leave with at least a dozen strategies for helping reluctant students become resilient learners.
