Inclusion Succeeds with Effective Strategies, Grades 6-12
This 6-page laminated quick-reference guide provides 6th-12th grade teachers with practical strategies for creating successful inclusive middle and high school classrooms.
The guide includes a chart outlining approaches to planning lessons based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) that honor multiple levels of intelligence and make academic standards relevant and accessible to learners. The chart is broken down into the following categories:
• Lesson goals and objectives • Motivation and procedures • Follow-ups and assessments
Strategies for fostering teamwork among co-teachers in inclusive secondary classrooms are also presented. The Disability Awareness Rubric will help teachers identify their attitudes and/or preconceptions about students with disabilities and turn their focus instead to students’ strengths and abilities.
